A Closer Look At Blue Origin & ULA’s FAA Comments
With SpaceX quickly building necessary infrastructure at sites like LC-39A in Florida, eventual Starship launches are not far away. SpaceX and Elon have expressed in the past that while Boca Chica is a great test site and facility, the future of the vehicle likely lies in Florida. Even new reports suggest that SpaceX wants the capability to launch Starship 120 times a year from that state.
With this being said, some companies in the area are not too fond of what this could mean. Both Blue Origin and United Launch Alliance have submitted comments on the FAA’s EIS of Starship in the area. Their comments include concern about Starship’s impact on their employees, general operations, noise, he...

Dream Chaser Tenacity Just Missed Its Ride To Space
Просмотров 21 тыс.12 часов назад
After Vulcan’s first launch early this year, the plan was for Dream Chaser to be the second payload sometime in the summer. That being said, recently it’s become clear that Sierra Space needs more time to complete testing and final prep before they are ready to integrate the spaceplane with Vulcan. Interestingly, rather than just waiting for Dream Chaser to be ready, ULA has decided to launch w...
NASA Could Extend Boeing's 45-Day Starliner Mission Cap
Просмотров 25 тыс.19 часов назад
Earlier today we finally got another update on Boeing’s Starliner spacecraft in the form of a media teleconference. Here the agency and company revealed that they still aren’t ready to set a return date until they complete more tests related to the thruster malfunctions and the helium leaks which could take weeks. They stressed that the crew is safe and that they are instead just using the time...
NASA Just Picked SpaceX To Deorbit The International Space Station
Просмотров 56 тыс.День назад
For more than two decades the International Space Station has been orbiting Earth. In that time, it has helped NASA among other agencies have consistent access to low Earth orbit, but it has also cost them quite a bit. It’s estimated that the floating laboratory costs the agency around $3 billion every year, which accounts for roughly a third of the total human spaceflight budget. With that in ...
A Closer Look At SpaceX's First Falcon Heavy Launch of 2024
Просмотров 13 тыс.День назад
After around half a year without a Falcon Heavy launch, the heavy-lift rocket just lifted off yesterday afternoon. On top was a NASA weather satellite named GOES-U, weighing in at around 5,000 kg (11,023lbs) and headed to a distant geostationary orbit. This required the Falcon Heavy to launch in a partially expendable configuration, where the center core is expended while the two side boosters ...
SpaceX’s New Raptor V3 Is Changing Starship's Design
Просмотров 46 тыс.День назад
Some of the most important parts of any launch vehicle are its engines. Both its efficiency and power among other factors can have a massive influence on a rocket’s payload capability, production time, and even reuse properties. For a while now we have been receiving the occasional update on the next generation of Raptor engines powering Starship. Earlier today however Musk shared some signific...
Boeing’s Crewed Starliner Undocking Was Just Delayed Indefinitely
Просмотров 61 тыс.День назад
What was originally planned to be around a week-long stay at the ISS has now been pushed back to an indefinite date. Late last night the agency made the decision to move off the June 26th departure date and are now working to figure out a possible return opportunity. Specifically, they want more time to review data related to the Helium leaks and thruster failures that occurred earlier in the m...
New Documents Support A Possible SpaceX Booster Catch Attempt
Просмотров 24 тыс.День назад
After the most recent integrated flight test and Super Heavy splashdown in the ocean, we started to hear about the possibility of a booster catch attempt on the next flight. This mainly came from Musk through different interviews and general comments. Just yesterday, however, the FCC revealed a permit for Flight 5 which mentioned a possible catch attempt on the next flight. Comments from Musk a...
Intuitive Machines Is About To Attempt A Second Moon Landing

Earlier this year in February Intuitive Machines, a public U.S. company, managed to touchdown on the Moon, albeit, sideways after the lander tipped over. While not ideal, they still managed to complete a decent amount of the mission’s original science goals and objectives. Interestingly, a lot of those objectives apply to the next lander which is in the final assembly stage right now. The missi...

The realist problem with this entire line of argument is that if SpaceX even gets close to the up-mass and launch cadence targets they have for starship, there isn’t a company in the world who will remotely be able to hold a candle to their ability to put things in orbit. They’re already more up-mass than all the other providers combined. The US government (Read: Military/Darpa) know that and in the end they will not shoot themselves in the foot that massively no matter what it does to other providers. The only real way I think other providers gain traction against starship is to start really trying to compete.

They can complain all they want, Starship is too valuable strategically for the government to slow it down. A SpaceX Mars base is a USA Mars base.

Well the first the first thing that stuck out to me after watching this whole video, was that know one pointed out that the version of starship that makes it to cape canaveral will be a ploshed finshed prduct with almost none of the issues there worried about. Or is that a uninformed view point? 🤥

    • @737smartin

Not uninformed, but BO is trying to present the most powerful argument they can. Fair and balanced is not part of this “persuasion petition.” SpaceX will be allowed to counter, if necessary.

I love Dream Chaser, but they have to pick up the pace. If necessary, they should also consider alternate launch vehicles although now the problem is their speed, not ULA. The opportunity for Dream Chaser will not always be there.

The air force will rubber stamp their EIS report in favor of SpaceX cause Uncle Sam always needs a useful billionaire idiot to help carry out clandestine operations, similar to how Howard Hughes was used as a proxy to help the U.S. government try and raise a sunken Russian submarine from the bottom of the ocean under the guise he was searching for manganese nodules on the ocean bottom... Starship will never, ever fly people but it will definitely carry secret military payloads, even as Musk pretends "sunlight is the best disinfectant". He's happy to be a useful government stooge. Lots of money on that... Speaking of which, SpaceX only ever made it and didn't go bankrupt because the U.S. government gave them a still NDA of money when they were originally starting up operations.

  • @eliharman

It's not just the money they're stealing from us, it's the opportunity cost of all the actual cool and new and interesting things they could be doing in space instead. They're literally stealing our future to keep a corrupt vestige of the past alive. They're stealing the whole solar system, nay the whole galaxy from us. If you're not mad you're not paying attention!

I get the fact that of course BO and ULA are a bit salty about the competition here, but the point about the noise and evacuation zones isn’t entirely meritless. I love starship but there’s no arguing it’s a big ship and spacex shouldn’t expect everyone to bow before them. The downside of all the spacex success is the one sided bias, but the cape is a busy place.

If starship wants to hit the absolutely ridiculous launch cadence necessary, they'll likely need to build launch facilities out on the water. Even if they get the entire cape to themselves, a one day turn around time would likely be too much for the surrounding area to reasonable handle for such a large rocket. Personally, I would prefer for them to just Deal With It, but it would likely be easier to go offshore that find a suitable place on land for their launch cadence.

Lol their lawsuits are 100% justified. Kathy Lueders abused her position as the interim NASA administrator to award SpaceX the sole contract for HLS/Artemis. Then, as soon as she was replaced with Biden's handpicked administrator she immediately went to work for SpaceX overseeing the very contract she had just solely awarded them.
